Garbage Studio Diary #20 August 9th 2004.
I've lost my voice
completely and utterly and it's driving me mad.I caught some foul virus on the
plane flying back from the UK last week despite my neurotic and compulsive use
of Purcell hand sanitizer (An absolute MUST when travelling by air. These planes
are FILTHY!!!!!!) and now I have a foul chest infection and what seems like
an extreme case of laryngitis!!!!
I hate being ill.It makes me quake and tremble with rage and yet with no voice
I have no means by which to express it.
Butch and his wife Beth just brought the sweetest, tinniest kitten home from
the pound yesterday and I'm in love.
He has a beautiful marmalade coat and the brightest amber eyes I've ever seen.Cute
cute CUTE.
So cute I'd like to eat him. He has little white hairs that spout out from the
inside of his wee ears and on the end of his little tail giving him a mad old
proffessor vibe that looks really silly on a tiny kitten barely 3 months old.
Missed the Gotti reality show last night much to my chagrin. It sounds fantastic
and completely up my alley.I sadly missed the Ashley Simpson one too although
she'll be hard pressed to beat Nick and Jessica which I became worryingly addicted
to shortly after The Osbournes and The Band came to a close.
I read a quote in The Rolling Stone about Ashley Simpson by a record executive
at Interscope Records describing her as "rock as rock gets" and I
got pretty excited.Oh she's going to be the really twisted jealous sister of
Jessica!!! That's going to be hot.But then I heard the single and it doesn't
sound even remotely like a rock record to me at all.I'm confused. All the rules
got changed around here.I mean......true rock girls are close to extinction.I'm
not kidding. They should put Karen O,Peaches and Brody in an enclosure and start
charging people a fortune to even look at them let alone hear them.
They are an endangered species and we need to start taking better care of them.
I mean there are pop stars and country stars and hip hop and rap stars and folk
stars and even blues stars in the charts but where oh where oh where are the
true women in rock?!??!?!
I think I've got stress-related acne.It's creeping me out.I haven't had a clear
visage in months.Currently I've got an undergrounder on my eyebrow. You can't
see it but it's hot and sore and I can tell it's going to come up to something
yucky on a grand scale. Then there's the little lump on the left hand side of
my chin that just won't go away no matter what I do.I think it might be time
for a facial.I haven't had one since I came to LA which sounds really stupid
when you come to think about it.Afterall ......this city is THE city for face
related vanity right? I just can't quite bring myself to get one out here.My
pride won't let me do it. I don't want to be one of those LA women who do nothing
but go to beauty salons and gyms.Ha ha aha haaaa................
I am so into my new dairy format! I got sick and tired of the Monday through
Saturday thing. Now I just type in here whenever I feel like it and don't have
to worry about starting anew every single day.
Once you get into the flow of writing........it's much easier to just keep on
going.I just write whatever pops into my vapid brain at the time. The stopping
and starting thing on the other hand.......I dunno....I just never seemed to
properly hit my stride.
My newest thing is that I've decided I like Paris Hilton.I couldn't stand the
mention of her name until just this week, when the penny dropped and a lightbulb
flashed and all of a sudden my brain was repeating and repeating " I like
Paris Hilton. She's a no good, trashy slut." I like the fact that she's simply
taking advantage of what is essentially a hideously corrupt system and making
it work for her to a ridiculously successful degree by being a sly, manipulative
sexual foreplayer. The fact that she also happens to be a poor little rich girl
is even funnier, adding insult to injury to the hypocritical nonsense that purports
we were all born equal. No sir, unfortunately we were NOT all born equal and the
system in place ensures that we remain that way. Those who do not have are discrimminated
against and those who have, get more.At least Paris is being honest about it
and that's why she's my girl of the week because if there is one thing in this
world we do not have enough of,it is people who are willing to illuminate the
truth.Paris embodies the world we are living in.Straight up.
Very odd...........I've been staying in a bizarre block of corporate appartments
whilst living in LA over the last 6 months and this morning I woke up to hear
someone above me blasting "Girl Don't Come" and "Special"
over and over again on their stereo.Very disconcerting indeed.Nothing like hearing
your own music being played by someone you don't know over and over again in
close proximity to you.
Maybe I have a stalker who knows I'm here and they're trying to freak me out!!!!
Went to see Collateral last night and rather liked it but then again I'm a big
Tom Cruise fan.Everyone else I know hates him and I know he's not considered
to be very "cool" but I think he's an amazing actor......especially
in "Born on the 4th of July"........which was just incredible but
anyway.......
Talking of incredible........Duke brought over a really beautiful record to
the studio yesterday called "A girl called Eddy" and it's absolutely
my record of the week.I'm sure it won't be everybody's cup of tea but if you
love Dusty Springfield and you love Amee Mann and you love really gorgeous melodies
that soar and take unexpected twists and turns and if you love sweet, sad lyrics
that churn your insides and you love records that can lull you to sleep then
this is one for your collection. It's not perfect but it's really REALLY beautiful
and perfect for long dark nights, strong whisky and tears.
