Shirley Manson :  The music industry is riddled with misogyny and... thats just the playing field, and ya just have ta get on with it and find a way through . I`ve been very lucky,  I`ve been successful and it certainly hasn`t impeded my progress, ... but I would consider myself a very aggressive female and for lesser armed women I think it can still remain a very difficult field to plow.

Certainly when Alanis`s first record...her debut record came out and everyone talked about [ gasps ] ya know...
" It was the year of the woman ! ", and of course that has subsided... but I still think we will see the reverberations of that for years to come,  because there`s gonna be kids out there who saw...ya know,  all  these women who came through in the wake of Alanis and their gonna be inspired by them and it`s gonna make them in turn want to pick up an instrument, or pick up  a microphone, and... make a racket and express themselves through music...and...
I think that`s great.
